Peregrine Fire Mitigation
Chipping Event Coming Soon

Peregrine’s first chipping event for the 2022 Neighborhood Chipping Program is fast approaching! Register now and make sure you have followed CSFD’s guidelines. Rules and guidelines are all available on the CSFD Chipping Flyer.

The upcoming dates are:

– Chipping Event #1 – May 23 – June 5
– Chipping Event #2 – Oct. 10 – Oct. 23

New this year, CSFD has restructured the chipping schedule to be in two-week blocks. Chipping will occur during the two weeks following the listed date. This means that instead of getting all of the chipping done in a single week, they will now be doing it over a two-week period. For example, for the first chipping event you will need to REGISTER and have your piles out by 8 a.m. on Monday, May 23 and chipping will occur anytime between May 23 – June 5.

Reminders:

  1. Online registration for our Neighborhood Chipping Program is now active. You can register at any time for either event.
  2. Please keep in mind that you must sign-up if you want your piles chipped. If you do not sign-up, your piles will not be chipped by CSFD. They have been somewhat lenient on this process in the past but due to the expansion of this program, they are no longer allowed to pick up piles that have not been registered appropriately.
  3. Piles need to be within 5’ of the road, stacked in 5’x5’x5’ dimensions with cut ends facing the road. You can do as many piles as you want, but you can’t do a single, 20’ long pile of slash. CSFD will not chip that.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding fire mitigation within Peregrine, please contact Steve Garcia, Safety & Security Committee Lead.

Colorado Springs Utilities Update
Water-wise rules in effect

Now is the time to prepare your sprinklers and start watering your lawn! With this necessary task, there are rules set forth by Colorado Springs Utilities. Please review these rules and be aware that the City has noted violations may result in fines.

6 Key Water-wise Rules:

  • You may water up to three days a week. You choose the days.
  • From May 1 to Oct. 15, water before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. to reduce evaporation.
  • Don’t let water pool on hard surfaces or flow down gutters.
  • Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
  • Use a shut-off nozzle when washing anything with a hose.
  • Clean hard surfaces (such as driveways, sidewalks and patios) with water only if there is a public health and safety concern.

Check out csu.org for additional water-wise suggestions and hints for maintaining your lawn during restrictions.

Safety & Security Update

Re-establishing Neighborhood Watch

We are pleased to announce that the Peregrine HOA Board of Directors are re-establishing the Neighborhood Watch Program.

According to CSPD:
Neighborhood Watch is simply a group of neighbors willing to cultivate relationships and communicate regularly to help reduce incidences of crime in their neighborhood. Each group is educated in general crime prevention, how to safely observe suspicious activity, and how and when to report the activity (first to the Police and then to each other).

You can view the details of the program in the Neighborhood Watch Handbook

If you’d like to serve in the Neighborhood Watch Program for Peregrine, please email the Safety & Security Committee through our Contact Us form. Provide your name, email address, home address, and phone number. Then select “Safety & Security Committee” in the ‘Select who this email should go to’ section of the form.

The Safety & Security Committee will be organizing a Neighborhood Watch Kick-Off meeting soon. Stay tuned!

Peregrine Aware
Garbage Tote Guidelines

We have had our fair share of extreme wind in Peregrine lately! Downed trees, damaged fences and broken utility boxes, among other things. But, the one main item we can control is the management of our garbage totes.

We kindly ask (and require in our covenants) that you always secure the tops of your totes with a bungee cord. These can easily be purchased at any home improvement store for less than $1. We have negotiated with GFL that they will take the time to unlatch the cords to remove our trash so that we can secure our lids on harsh weather days.

Additionally, it is imperative that you DO NOT put your totes out the evening before garbage day. Bears are coming out of hibernation and evening winds tend to be more harsh. It is required that you put your totes out by 7 a.m. on garbage day and return them to your garage that evening.

If you need any assistance in following these guidelines, please reach out to any Derek PattersonPlease do your part in keeping Peregrine clean and free of trash.
