2018 Wildfire Mitigation Chipping Event: August 20, 2018

The Chipping Guidelines are as follows:

  • Individual homeowners must register to participate
  • All chipping dates are the “week of”
  • Material must be stacked curbside by 8:00 AM Monday morning and will be picked up by the end of the week
  • Incorrectly stacked piles WILL NOT BE PICKED UP

Piles need to be curbside by Monday at 8:00 am. Piles left out after Monday will not be picked up.  Please note, to participate in this program you MUST contact the Fire Department for an inspection or to be placed on their chipping list.

On-site consultations may be scheduled Monday thru Thursday between 8 am and 3 pm or evenings by appointment.

Once you learn what scrub oaks or other foliage must be cleared to protect your home from fire danger, you may clear away that brush. Guidelines for these piles of timber are available from the CSFD. Please email them for more information.

Follow these tips to make your home FireWise: Annual Checklist – Remove dead, dying, or diseased trees and shrubs – Trim low branches of evergreen trees – Remove highly flammable vegetation from window areas – Remove trash and debris accumulations from the area around your home – Remove overhanging branches from the roof and chimney – Mow grass and weeds to a low height – Attach a hose that can reach to all parts of the house – Post house numbers that are visible from all directions of travel – Discuss evacuation routes and meeting points so they are understood by all family members – Consider a fire resistant exterior siding, such as stucco – Check that chimney screens are in place and in good condition.
